  博士生導師,現(xiàn)任中國科學院亞熱帶農(nóng)業(yè)生態(tài)研究所畜牧健康養(yǎng)殖中心主任，學術(shù)委員會副主任，中國共產(chǎn)黨湖南省第九次代表大會代表，湖南省直機關(guān)和中國科學院模范共產(chǎn)黨黨員，九三學社全國優(yōu)秀社員，湖南省政協(xié)常委，湖南省海外聯(lián)誼會常務(wù)理事，湖南省九三學社省委委員，動物營養(yǎng)學國家重點實驗室、生物飼料安全與污染防控國家工程實驗室和中國科學院亞熱帶農(nóng)業(yè)生態(tài)系統(tǒng)過程重點實驗室學術(shù)委員會委員，國際食品、農(nóng)業(yè)與環(huán)境學會常務(wù)理事（芬蘭）及Journal of Food, Agriculture & Environment和African Journal of Food Science雜志副主編，International Scholarly Research Network （ISRN） Veterinary Science, Journal of Microbiology and Antimicrobials 和Asian-Australasian Journal of Animal Science等國際雜志編委，，中國畜牧獸醫(yī)學會科技專家動物營養(yǎng)學分會常務(wù)理事，中國微量元素與食物鏈研究會副理事長，兼任南昌大學博士和博士后導師；在Nucleic Acids Res（IF 7.5）和J Nutr Biochem（IF 4.3）等SCI期刊上發(fā)表論文114篇，中文論文190余篇，論文被他人引用了2031次；主編和參編中英文專著6部；獲授權(quán)專利10項；克隆并在GenBank注冊了與豬腸道健康相關(guān)基因13個。獲省部級以上科技獎勵12項，其中《仔豬腸道健康調(diào)控關(guān)鍵技術(shù)及其在飼料產(chǎn)業(yè)化中的應(yīng)用》，國家科技進步二等獎，排名第一，2010年；《畜禽氮磷代謝調(diào)控及安全型飼料配制關(guān)鍵技術(shù)研究與應(yīng)用》，國家科技進步二等獎，排名第一，2008；《豬飼料養(yǎng)分回腸末端利用率及有效氨基酸需要量的研究》，國家科技進步三等獎，排名第一，1996；《豬、雞營養(yǎng)參數(shù)及配方新技術(shù)研究》，國家科技進步二等獎，排名第五，1997年； 1985獲西德馬普學會研究獎學金；1991年獲中國科學院第二屆青年科學家獎；1992年獲國務(wù)院政府特殊津貼； 1995年6月被聯(lián)合國科教文組織和中國科學院挑選為中國當代科技精英之一；1996年獲英國ORS獎學金；1996年獲Finnfeeds International Ltd研究獎學金。2009年獲大北農(nóng)第六屆科技成果獎”。

  目前主要借助免疫學、分子生物學和生物技術(shù)，與加拿大圭爾夫大學、加拿大農(nóng)業(yè)部食品營養(yǎng)研究中心、德國基因橋股份公司、美國德克薩斯大學、奧本大學、德國家畜生物研究所以及國內(nèi)大學、研究機構(gòu)與公司合作研究氨基酸和碳水化合物營養(yǎng)代謝及調(diào)控機理和研發(fā)功能食品與飼料,（招收動物營養(yǎng)、分子營養(yǎng)、食品營養(yǎng)學碩士、博士研究生和博士后）。
